God’s Redemptive Action
(Originally written and posted on 02 October 2011
I've been thinking this morning about GOD'S Redemptive Action Concerning Everyone (GRACE).
The Greek word is “charis,” and is defined as good will, loving-kindness, and favor of the merciful kindness by which GOD, exerting HIS HOLY SPIRIT upon souls to turn them to JESUS CHRIST. Then the grace of GOD disciples those who believe, by keeping them, strengthening and increasing them in Christian faith, in knowledge, in affection (agape love), and in obedience to exercise Christ-like virtues.
The first time “grace” is mentioned in Scripture is in reference to Noah. “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD” (Genesis 6:8). At a time when GOD felt grief in HIS HEART, HE still had grace in HIS eyes. “And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that HE had made man on the earth, and it grieved HIM at HIS heart!” (Genesis 6:5,6).
We must understand that GOD was grieved with the wickedness and evil thoughts in Noah’s day, and HE surely is grieved with sinfulness of our society today! But, if we turn back to GOD, we will find grace in HIS eyes.
“All have sinned, and come short of the glory of GOD,” (Romans 3:23) is in context with the grace of GOD! “Being justified freely by HIS GRACE through the redemption that is in CHRIST JESUS” (Romans 3:24). The precious blood of JESUS was the payment for our sins and thereby HE redeemed us, and forgave us.
"The LORD is not slack concerning HIS promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that ALL SHOULD COME TO REPENTANCE" (2 Peter 3:9).
Repentance is a remorseful response for our rebellion against GOD and the LORDSHIP of JESUS CHRIST! We should be sad about our sinfulness!
“Grace, grace, GOD’S grace! Grace that will pardon and cleanse within. Grace, grace, GOD’S grace, Grace that is greater than all our sin!”
GOD’S Redemptive Action Concerning Everyone is for all, for whosoever, for you and for me.
